About the Artist
Experiencing Tim Hovde’s paintings is like diving into a pool of pure color. Monumental in size, the viewers are enveloped by the textures and hues of his extraordinary pieces and find themselves immersed in a garden like no other. Tim uniquely translates his reality into paintings that are visually appealing as abstractions, yet remain true to the essence of his subject.
Tim began creating art and photography at the age of fourteen. He simply picked up a brush and began painting with enamels and acrylics and also began creating sculptural works of art in wood and metal. He was influenced by his father who was a professional photographer and wood worker and grew up with a camera in his hand, immersed in the world of art, music and photography. A self-taught artist, Tim believes the "art" of painting is a talent you are born with.
Most of Tim’s paintings come from the places to which he has traveled; the images that end up on his canvases and through his cameras lens are often from the places that inspire him. For instance; afternoon spent walking through the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris inspired the Dans le jardin series. Living near the east and west coasts created the Pooling series; sunrises, sunsets, and landscapes. Tim spends most of his time outside, in nature, not necessarily looking for the next subject, instead allowing the subjects appear right in front of him.
Tim's artwork and photographs are shown in galleries and museums around the United States and are in private collections in the United States and abroad.
For the last three decades I have been photographing and painting the natural world around me. From a very early age I found that I was able to apply my artistic talent without much instruction, as the images come naturally to me from the world around me. I mainly paint large scale abstract impressions perfect for those in hi-rises and larger residences/offices. Color and texture play important roles within each painting, I think there should be a 50/50 role playing on a two dimensional surface. The fact that there are no limits to what can be created is very simply the reason that I create. It is my greatest desire for the world to own and enjoy my artwork.
